Thanks Babsi, I wanted to see if I could present the subtle light of dusk, the atmosphere present as evening approaches, , in such a large painting. Thanks again for your kind appreciation !!!!!.
Here’s how I achieved it.
First, I painted the entire canvas dark, using Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Sap Green, and a touch of Naples Yellow. It’s called an “imprimatura” layer. After it dried, I used semi=transparent light colors, The technical term is “scumble”.. By varying the thickness of this overprinting, the look of floating watercolor is achieved. That’s enough teaching for today.
Oh thank you. I have never painted in oils, I am too sensitive, I wonder if this affect can be achieved with acrylics. Thinned down colors for the last layers. I love hearing about your process, you are a master Maurice. ❤️
I think it might work in acrylics? Light transparent colors over dried dark colors. Certainly worth a try. I retired from teaching exactly 20 years ago, this month. I feels good to be back giving instructions !!!
Dear Maurice,
the mood is like after a forest fire, the heat is still in the air! This work radiates a lot of energy!
It is wonderful!👏👏👏👏👌👍
Best regards Babsi

I love how you have made it so atmospheric and I get the impression that it is a watercolor, but it is an oil, surprisingly transparent looking.
