Gorgeous, there is such a depth of feeling in this painting. Do you normally start out with a certain color as a toned underpainting? or do you go with the subject matter or color scheme?
Margaret, As you know, I love to tell stories about my paintings. This original painting was in the reject pile. (mostly dark maroons). I put it on the easel, for future work, and went to the deck, planning to take the rest of the day off. Lately, I’ve been feeling the affects of growing old. A huge vulture started circling in the sky, right over me. I thought I better fix the painting today, and that’s how it happened. I added the clouds, and reflections, went back to the deck, and the bird of prey was gone.
haha…..That vulture was probably threatening you with a good swoop on your head if you didn’t finish that painting! you listened, good job! 😉 I am finding that putting a painting aside for a while helps with perspective and attitude. One day I’ll hate a painting, the next I kind of like it. Sometimes it takes a month or two! I haven’t had any vultures show up yet, I’ll keep my eye open!
The day I complete a painting, I think I would not let it go, even for a million dollars. The next day, I think $ 1.98 is a fair price. Time resolves everything.
