Hand building is fun, I enjoy creating the coils and deciding whether or not to “smooth” them out or leave them, coiled! Actually smoothing them out is even more fun! Patience, control, reward.
However, I really love the potters wheel! So mesmerizing, so perfect. So hard! I have only had a chance to use a throwing wheel but once. & let me say, it was much harder than it looks/I expected it to be.
Oh, how I would love to get my hands on that technique/talent! & my own throwing wheel. 🙂
“Patience, Control, and Reward” —-that’s the working title for my autobiography.
Learning to throw is a lot like learning to swim or learning to ride a bike—difficult at first, but once the skills are mastered, you’re on automatic pilot. How I envy your talent, and youth. You have a wonderful future ahead of you—enjoy it!
Words can’t express what a compliment that is! Thank you, Maurice.
How pleased I am to have found you. I enjoy looking at your spectacular, inspiring work everyday, and will now for some time!
I am glad to hear that throwing clay is similar to learning to ride a bike, etc. I will hold on to that for the next time I get a chance to throw again. I feel as though it will ease the inevitable discouragement!
Thank you again, Maurice! & I am enjoying it already, I can only imagine what will come.
