Maurice Sapiro was born in New Jersey and now lives and works in Connecticut. He paints landscapes and still lifes, many of which explore an ongoing preoccupation with light. His paintings often capture that incredible moment when land meets sky, and he manages to convey a strong sense of atmosphere in a literal sense – air and light coming together. He has work in the permanent collection of The New Britain Museum of American Art, CT, and has exhibited in New York City at The National Academy of Design, The National Arts Club, The City Center Gallery and The Forum Gallery. His work is in many private and corporate collections.
Maurice explains this work by saying, “My technique is based on the ‘simultaneous color printing’ method devised by Stanley Hayter (1901-1988) in his etchings and lithographs. Hayter found that oil colors of different consistency not only did not blend, but they repelled each other. I pour oil colors of different viscosities onto a flat panel, and by tilting and manipulating the flow, I can control and create the image.”
Congratulation Maurice!! I really love what you do!

Gorgeous. I especially like the lava-flow look of ‘Viscosity’–hot stuff! 🙂
